Neil Jarvis 1966 to 2020
Written by Administrator

Putyourbatsout NJ It is with deep sadness that the Club announces the death on Thursday 3rd December 2020 of Neil Jarvis at the age of 54. Neil was a very much valued member of Livingston Cricket Club and admired for his skill with both bat and ball. His first season was 1992 and his career with the Club spanned 28 years although he did not play every season as his other sporting passion golf sometimes trumped cricket.

Over the seasons he did play he took part in 190 matches, batted in 174 innings and was not out in 22 of them amassing 4,154 runs, his highest score was 163 not out. With the ball he bowled 1,057 overs of which 215 were maidens and took 213 wickets at an average of 14.82. In the field he took 56 catches. He stands 4th in the list of Most Career Runs, 9th in the list of Most Career Wickets and 13th for Most Career Catches. Over his playing career Neil played for all three of the Club’s teams winning the 1st Xl Gerry Toms Batting Trophy in 2003 and the 1st Xl Fielding Trophy in 2017. His 2nd Xl performances with the bat saw him win that team’s Batting Trophy seven times between 2003 and 2017. He Captained the 2nd Xl in seasons 2016 and 2017. While playing for the 2nd Xl in Season 2005 he shared an unbeaten partnership of 192 with David Vettese against Morton 2nd Xl and in 2006 he shared a partnership of 214 with Richard Hodgson in a 2nd Xl match against Murrayfield/DAFs 3rd Xl
Neil’s enjoyment of cricket was clear to see both on and off the field providing encouragement to his teammates in particular the younger players. His recent coaching work with the Club’s Juniors has seen an improvement both at team and individual player level. As well as his contribution as a player and latterly as a coach Neil served on the Club’s Board and Management Committee as Treasurer for two years. The thoughts of all at the Club are with his family, friends, and work colleagues at this incredibly sad time.
